DOVIA New Orleans

Directors of Volunteers in Alliance

 Information and Resources for
 Volunteer Leaders

  Changes for DOVIA!

The board and planning team has been meeting to develop a plan for moving DOVIA forward in the best direction to meet our members needs - here is a quick summary:

  1. Name = Directors of Volunteers in ALLIANCE
  2. After the March meetings, we will be holding our meetings online! Our meetings will be available to members for free and to non-members for a nominal fee. We will use the Go-To-Meeting platform for the meetings. Meetings will be recorded and archived for viewing later by members.
  3. We will offer networking open houses at our member locations to continue our face-to-face social contacts and to get to know our fellow members and their services better. Members can sign up to host the quarterly networking events - and can partner with others to offer them jointly. They will be done in afternoons - so you can go home after the event, not back to the office!
  4. We plan to host an annual Volunteer Leadership Institute with top-notch speakers and topics. We will endeavor to partner with state-wide nonprofit and volunteer leaders to host this event.
  5. Our listserve will be discontinued and we will use the blog on this site.
  6. Our social service project - the painted suitcases for transitioning foster care youth - will continue!

New Membership Rates!

We accept members year-round and membership fees apply for 12 months from your date of joining. You can join online or at a meeting. We like to have everyone pre-register for meetings so that we have enough seating reserved and so that we can print up networking lists to give to attendees (lists all pre-registered attendees and their contact information). Download a membership brochure or join online.

Each meeting has a topic of interest for volunteer program leaders and time for Q&A. Members are surveyed regularly for topic input.

Members are able to share information on the DOVIA listserv and receive periodic newsletters. Training days are offered twice a year and are discounted for members.

DOVIA New Orleans is a registered 501(c)3 charitable organization and donations are tax deductible to the extent of the law.

Carol Bebelle, Executive Director of Ashe' Cultural Arts Center, and Nicholas Auck, Louisiana Serve Commission, at a recent meeting of DOVIA New Orleans. Ashe' Cultural Arts Center is our host site for our New Orleans meetings.

Don't forget - We are collecting old suitcases for youth! The suitcases will be painted by local artists and then they will be given to foster youth through local CASA organizations for when they transition out of care. You can send us a note to collect your old, but still usable suitcase for painting!
